Step 1 — Upload, photograph or paste
On the scan page you can drop a PDF (typed or scanned) or Word file, take a photo of a paper contract, scan it with a phone scanner app, or paste text. Reading the file happens entirely in your browser:
- PDF: the text layer is read on your device. Scanned PDFs without a text layer are converted with on-device OCR.
- Word (.docx): converted to plain text on your device.
- Photos: recognized with on-device OCR in your chosen language. A flat, well-lit photo works best.
- Pasted text: used as-is.
The original file is never uploaded to us. You can confirm this in your browser's network tools: the only request that carries contract content is the text sent for analysis.
Step 2 — Review what will be sent
Before analysis, the text is scanned on your device for personal data. Email addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers, card and account numbers and web links are replaced with placeholders such as [EMAIL] or [NUMBER]. The page shows you how many items were redacted. Names are not redacted automatically — if you prefer, edit them out in the text box first.
You also choose the report language. "Same as the contract" is the default; you can pick any language — or type one in.
Step 3 — Analysis
The redacted text is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to a large language model (Google's Gemini, on the paid API tier that does not use customer data to train models). The model reads the whole contract and returns a structured report. Our server passes the report back to your browser and keeps nothing: no text, no report, no file name. Daily limits protect against abuse.
The model is instructed to behave like a careful reviewer on the weaker party's side: quote the exact wording behind every finding, explain in plain language, never claim something is "illegal" as fact, and point out when a lawyer should be involved.
Step 4 — Your report
The free preview gives you the summary, overall risk level and the three most important clauses, so you can judge the quality for yourself.
The full report ($4.99 per contract, one-time) includes:
- Every clause worth attention, quoted, rated high/medium/low and explained
- What to ask for instead — concrete alternative wording
- Protections that are missing from the contract
- Key numbers, dates, deadlines and penalties in one list
- Questions to ask the other party before signing
- A polite negotiation email, ready to copy and send
- Whether a lawyer should review it, and why
One-click helpers on every full report: save as PDF, download as a text file, copy the whole report, copy the questions, copy the negotiation email. We keep nothing on our servers. Your last five full reports are kept in your own browser for 7 days, so an accidentally closed tab does not cost you the report; delete it there any time, and save it as a PDF if you want it longer.
What it is good at — and what it isn't
Good at: spotting one-sided terms, hidden fees and renewals, waived rights, unclear scope and missing protections; explaining jargon; giving you the words to push back.
Not a substitute for: a licensed lawyer's advice on your situation, knowledge of the specific law in your country or state, or a review of something you're already being sued over. AI can misread or miss things — always check the quoted wording against the original.
Why we built it this way
Contracts contain your salary, your address, your bank details and your plans. Tools that store that for "convenience" create risk for you and for them. By extracting text on your device, redacting before sending, and never storing anything, we removed the biggest risk entirely: there is nothing on our side to leak, subpoena or misuse.
